Paul Evans could be on his way back to Valley Parade.

The fiery Welsh international midfielder is currently training with the Bantams, three years after being sold to Nottingham Forest.

Evans, 32, is out of contract after finishing a one-season deal with Swindon which was badly hit by injury.

His last appearance for the Robins was before Christmas at Macclesfield when, like new recruit Peter Thorne, he was a sub who had to be substituted with an ankle problem.

He has undergone two ankle operations, the last one involving drilling through the joint, but is now fit to resume his career.

That could well be with City, where he made 45 appearances during a 19-month spell up to March 2004.

Signed by Nicky Law after the first administration, he was reluctantly released by Bryan Robson when the club were plunged into financial crisis a second time.

He played over 50 times for Forest but fell out of favour when Gary Megson took over.

Joining Swindon a year ago, Evans scored four times in 17 games before hamstring and then ankle troubles took over.

Evans, who City fans will remember for his fiercely-struck free-kicks, has been undergoing rehab at Leeds and said recently: "The ankle is coming on well. I'm up and running now and twisting and turning and there has been no reaction."

McCall, also casting an eye over seven other trialists, confirmed: "Evo is training with us with a view to coming on board."
