Stuart McCall is expected to unveil his first two signings as City boss this afternoon.
One of the two new players is understood to be well-travelled frontman Barry Conlon.
The 28-year-old, who has appeared for ten different clubs, scored 12 goals last season in League Two - six each at Darlington and Mansfield.
The other fresh arrival is rumoured to be former Cardiff and Stoke striker Peter Thorne, who was released by Norwich in May.
McCall, who is casting a keen eye over several trialists in the early days of pre-season, will be delighted to get his first captures in the bag.
He has already missed out on Spencer Weir-Daley, who opted to stay in Nottingham with Notts County, and Yeovil-bound Paul Warne.
