Bradford Golf Club's Sam Jewell was the top local qualifier in the Yorkshire Amateur Championship at Moortown yesterday.

Jewell, who is also a member at Keighley, posted a one-over par 72 to come seventh and make it through to the last 32 matchplay stages today.

Others qualifying from Bradford Union clubs were Rob Hillas (Northcliffe) and Dan Thomas (Baildon), who both shot 75, and James Firth (Bradford Moor) and Tom Usher (Baildon), who posted 76s.

Defending champion Gareth Evans, of Northcliffe, failed to qualify after shooting 78.

Host player Nigel Sweet produced the score of the day with a 68.
