City are giving a trial to 21-year-old Barnsley youngsters Thomas Harban and Nathan Joynes with a view to taking them on loan.
Right back Harban and striker Joynes have been given new contracts at the Championship club but Oakwell boss Simon Davey is keen for them to gain first-team experience.
The pair will join the squad, who officially report back for pre-season training tomorrow.
City manager Stuart McCall said: "Nothing is definite. We are just going to have a little look at them, see how they feel and how we feel about them."
Joynes has made one substitute appearance for the Reds and enjoyed loan spells at Halifax Town - where he scored three goals in five starts - and Boston United over the last 12 months.
Harban has yet to appear for the Barnsley first team but made four appearances on loan at Conference side Tamworth last season.
With City's training base at Apperley Bridge still very wet after flooding this week, McCall said full training would not start until Monday.
He said: "We won't be doing too much until next week. Most clubs start back in July but it's a chance for me to meet the players and get other things sorted out like taking players' weights and body fats. The real business starts on Monday."
- Former City boss Chris Hutchings has appointed Frank Barlow as his assistant at Wigan Athletic. Barlow was drafted in to work under caretaker boss David Wetherall last season.
