BEN Williams has called on City to use their emphatic win at Peterborough as the launch pad to shoot back into the play-off mix.
Saturday’s 4-0 victory has revived spirits ahead of tomorrow’s home clash with Southend, another rival for the top six.
James Hanson scored twice on his 300th appearance as the Bantams racked up their biggest league victory since September 2013.
Keeper Williams, who played his part with a couple of big second-half saves, insists City must now back it up.
He said: “It’s a fair assessment to say we’ve underachieved as individuals in the past couple of games.
“We won against Fleetwood but we weren’t particularly convincing and we did ourselves no justice at Burton. We got sucked into a way of playing that we weren’t comfortable with.
“We rode our luck at times on Saturday but the spirit and determination was there to put in a performance and kick-start the run-in to the end of the season.
“If it was a school report, you’d say Bradford ‘could do better’ so far. But there are plenty of games left.
“We’re still well in the hunt for the play-offs on 44 points with a game in hand on some teams. It’s a good position to be in.
“We’ve got another very important game tomorrow and know Southend have been in very good form lately.
“But it’s nice to go into it on the back of scoring goals. Confidence will be high, particularly among the strikers.”
Kyel Reid and Steve Davies were also on target in City’s first-ever win at London Road at the 16th attempt. The Bantams had not scored four away since Chelsea 13 months ago.
“You get games like that,” added Williams. “You could see the confidence coming back into the team when we’re creating chances, putting lots of crosses in and people are making runs into the box.
“Our creative players that we need to play well did. Once the second goal went in, the weight had been lifted and the freedom in our play really showed.
“Hans caused all sorts of problems for their back four. I thought Wes (Thomas) linked up really well and with Reidy bombing on and terrorising full backs it was a joy for supporters to watch.
“These are the sort of players that you need to perform for you at this stage of the season.”
After the club record-equalling run of eight clean sheets during October and November, Williams was pleased to see City claim another away shut-out. They had conceded ten goals in the previous four league trips.
He said: “We put bodies on the line and there was a real determination to keep the ball out the net. There were some fantastic blocks.
“We took a lot of plaudits for that run of clean sheets and rightly so. But of late, we all hold our hands up for individual errors that have cost us at times.
“On the road, we’d conceded three in three of the games which is far from the standards we set. We don’t hide, we’re an honest group of lads and work hard to rectify that.
“It’s days like Saturday when you feel the hard work you put in through the week finally pays off.”
