Xavier Barrau will be keeping his fingers crossed for some long-distance good news this week.
The French winger injected some va-va-voom into City's farewell to League One with an exciting two-goal debut.
And he is now desperately hoping that will be enough to earn him a role in next season's promotion push from the basement division.
Barrau arrived at City in David Wetherall's first week in charge after buying out his contract at Airdrie United in Scotland and earned a short-term deal following a successful trial.
But his first-team chances were limited to two brief run-outs as a sub before being let loose on Millwall on the final weekend of the season.
Barrau grabbed the opportunity eagerly and he is waiting to find out if that will be rewarded with the offer of a fresh contract.
The 24-year-old, who is back in France, said: "There are a lot of things we don't know at the moment.
I spoke to David Wetherall but we don't know yet if he will be the manager next season or a player. But he told me the club will keep in touch and I am hopeful.
"I've played for a lot of different teams and moved around a lot but I've always said I want to stay at just the one club and I hope that will be Bradford.
"When I am settled then people will see me do better. I just want that chance to go out there and play as well as I can."
Barrau did himself no harm with the two City goals that lit up the final day of the season at the Intersonic Stadium.
"I really enjoyed it," he added, "even though we knew we were going down. I had to show the club what I can do.
"I would have preferred it, of course, if I hadn't scored but we had managed to stay in the division. Unfortunately, that was not possible.
"But I am sure Bradford can come back next year and I'm hoping to be there. That is what I would like to do but it depends if Bradford still want me."
Barrau is one of four players whose future hangs on the appointment of a new boss. Steve Schumacher, Marc Bridge-Wilkinson and Richard Edghill are also waiting on who the next manager will be.
But the clock is ticking. The club's retained list has to be registered with the Football League and Football Association by Saturday.
