TERRY Dolan is to become a director at Bradford Park Avenue – where his playing career began.
Avenue owner Gareth Roberts expressed his delight at the move, which sees Dolan return to the club where he first entered the professional game in 1968, becoming team captain during his three seasons there.
Roberts said: “We’re really pleased that Terry has agreed to join the board. He will bring a wealth of professional knowledge and experience in the sport of football, both on and off the pitch, to help inform some of our decision making. "We hope he will play a key role in securing our role in the local community, promoting our current teams and also helping to spearhead a growth in our youth football.”
Dolan, who is set to take up his role as soon as his appointment is approved by the Football Association, said: “I’m extremely pleased to be invited to join the board of Bradford Park Avenue.
"The owners have exciting plans for the future of the club and I will do everything I can to help them achieve their aims.
“As a football club working with the community, we can build up the fan base and together, eventually, see Avenue back in the Football League.”
Dolan moved on to play for Huddersfield Town (1971-76), Bradford City (1976-81) and Rochdale (1981-83) and was then player coach at Thackley (1983-84) and Harrogate Town (1984-85).
He moved into management, taking charge of the Bantams from 1987 to 1989, then Rochdale (1989-91) and Hull City (1991-97) before becoming coach at Huddersfield Town (1997-2000) and manager at York City (2000-03).
Most recently, he was manager of Guiseley for the 2006-07 season.
Dolan was a consultant/coach to the St Vincent and Grenadines national team as they progressed through qualifiers for the 2006 World Cup and head of recruitment last season for Notts County.
Between 2004 and 2013, he worked for the League Managers’ Association, mentoring new managers and coaches. The role included sitting as a panel member for tribunals to settle transfer disputes between clubs.
He is currently working for the Premier League as a match delegate, assessing referees.
