Ian Moore admitted he was devastated' when Dennis Wise told him his Leeds contract would not be renewed.
Moore has had a difficult time since his £50,000 move from Burnley, making only 21 starts in 65 appearances and scoring just five goals.
However, many felt his work-rate and versatility would be an asset as Leeds come to terms with Division One.
But Moore was told after Saturday's final game that he didn't figure in Wise's plans and said: "I was gutted when I was told I would be leaving. I had a good time at the club and was hoping to play a part in helping the club get back up."
Wise is having talks with other players this week ahead of what is bound to be a major clear-out of players he doesn't want and players who don't want to drop into the third tier of English football.
They will expect to receive fees for David Healy, Richard Cresswell and possibly Eddie Lewis, money that will be badly needed to attract some experienced players to link up with the youngsters who will form the core of the squad next season.
