IT HAS been a busy summer at Throstle Nest for the club that began the close season as Farsley AFC but will end it as Farsley Celtic.
After lodging an appeal to reclaim their original moniker that the FA granted, the Celts are back, and the club’s chief executive officer Josh Greaves is looking forward to the future.
Greaves was promoted from club secretary to his new role at Farsley’s end-of-season presentation evening last May and has since been appointed as chairman of the West Riding County FA Women’s Football League.
He has a vision for the club, and it is not just about the first team. Greaves said: “This football club has massive potential and we are increasing the output to the media and our social media sites.
“We have always enjoyed a good relationship with the local press but we can reach out further with instant news the way the media is these days. I think clubs that aren’t doing it are struggling to make headway.
“It takes a lot of dedication, time and effort but it’s more than worth it and I do it because I love the club.”
Farsley pride themselves on being a community club, and Greaves has taken it on himself to keep Throstle Nest in the limelight locally.
With his new role in the women’s game and a desire to include the whole community, he is spearheading the club’s drive to increase their women’s and girls’ teams and also introduce disabled teams.
Greaves added: “There are three open-age women’s sides operating out of the club now, and the only other club in the area doing that is Bradford City. I’ve brought new people in and we’re moving it forward again with more young age-group teams.
“We have got the local running club involved now, and they are here every Thursday, and we have got in partnership with Bubble Force to get bubble football (where a player is encased in a zorb) going in the gym.

“But I think the biggest and best new route is us looking at disabled football and starting up a team.
“We have set ourselves goals, and we might have a long way to go but we’ll get there, and, the only clubs in the area doing disabled football are professional teams Bradford City, Leeds United and Huddersfield Town.
“We’ve got the facilities, we’ve got the resources and we will make it happen.”
Farsley have snapped up prolific forward Nick Guest to add to recent capture Neil Stevens for the coming Evo-Stik Division One North season.
Guest moves up from the lower leagues after hitting 38 goals for Hemsworth, and said: "It will be a big challenge to step up a couple of leagues but I am really looking forward to pre-season and the new campaign."I
