BRADFORD Park Avenue have boosted their forward line with the signing of proven scorer James Walshaw and they have also brought in a new keeper with the capture of Jon Stewart from Worksop Town.
New Bradford boss Martin Drury made former Farsley Celtic, Guiseley and Altrincham striker Walshaw his first signing. The player joined from National League North rivals Harrogate Town on Wednesday.
The following day Drury was back in the transfer market to bring in former Bournemouth and Burnley stopper Stewart. That move heralded the end of Jon Danby’s time at Horsfall. Last season’s number one will not be offered a new deal.
Drury said: “We’re very pleased to get James on board for next season. He’s one of those players you just hate to play against as he can be a real nuisance but you know you’d take him in your team given the choice.
“He’s a natural-born goal-scorer and his record speaks for itself, he’s proved he can produce at this level and the level above so we feel, given the right service, he is going to be a success for Bradford Park Avenue.”
Walshaw said: “I’m coming into the club at a time when they can really push on. They have shown that by getting out of the wrong end of the table last season and I’m joining to get promoted.
“Dru (Martin Drury) and Pricey (Jamie Price) have come in and really sold the club to me. They’re really keen to move this club forward and have a lot of good ideas, plus the pitch is getting done!
“Ultimately I can bring goals, but the other side of my game is that I’m not afraid to work hard, so that’s what I bring to the table.”
Stewart is also excited to be joining the club for the new season and he feels his experience will be invaluable for the squad.
Stewart said: "I bring a lot of experience, I’ve only been out of the full time game a short time. This is my second year out of the professional game.
“I’ve got experience in the Championship and League One and I think I will just bring a big solid keeper at the back who can play football as well.
“I’m an all rounder, I work on everything. I don’t like having a weakness, if I feel I’ve got a weakness I will work on it until I am happy with it.
“Most people would look at me and probably mention my size but I think there is more to me than my size, I’m an all rounder, good with the ball at my feet, good with crosses, my kicking is really good with both feet and I’m good communication-wise. I work on it all.”
