BRIGHOUSE Town can be satisfied with a season of consolidation following their promotion to the Evo-Stik League.

Paul Quinn’s men had been used to sweeping all before them and won the Toolstation Northern Counties East Premier Division title the previous year with a record 101 points from 44 games. They were four points clear of runners-up Tadcaster Albion.

It was always going to be difficult following a big step up but it began well with two wins followed by a draw.

The first defeat was a humbling 4-0 home reverse to Scarborough Athletic and another blow soon followed as Town exited the FA Cup at the first qualifying round.

Town made history with their first-ever tie in the FA Trophy but went out to Ossett Town and a goal from former Guiseley man Dave Merris.

Their interest in the West Riding County Cup was also short lived as they lost 6-2 at Silsden in the second round.

Survival in the Evo-Stik was the main focus. Six defeats in seven league games around the turn of the year was a concerning time but a big home victory over eventual title winners Salford City lifted spirits.

Town suffered through the wettest part of the winter, as all the clubs did, with postponements home and away affecting consistency.

However, Town put in a strong finish with a seven-game unbeaten run leading to encouraging signs for the coming season
