PARK Avenue's season ended with a tame goalless draw at North Ferriby United but that day was not representative of the drama both clubs had encountered during the campaign.

Ferriby famously won the FA Trophy Trophy after beating Wrexham at Wembley in a penalty shoot-out.

Avenue won the West Riding County Cup, for the first time since 1991 to put some silverware in their cabinet.

Those were the high points for the two clubs in what was truly a rollercoaster season in which both faced despair.

Avenue’s low point was being second bottom on New Year’s Day when their home game against Chorley was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

Ferriby’s darkest hour followed their Wembley triumph as their owners scaled back the funding, leading to unfounded rumours that they were to voluntarily drop down into the Evo-Stik League.

The season was also an eventful one for Martin Drury who was one of six Avenue players to suffer an injury that needed surgery.

Drury, who began the season as first choice left back, was forced to call time on his playing career.

He was made fitness coach before being promoted to assistant manager when Mark Hulme left and ended the campaign as manager elect.

John Deacey’s decision not to take a role overseeing the new pairing of Drury and his assistant Jamie Price leaves him as the top man going into the 2015-16 season.

Deacey, who has managed the club three times, steered Avenue to safety starting the comeback in February with a run that earned him the Conference North’s manager of the month accolade.

Avenue rocketed up the table to finish well clear of trouble. Had it not been for the fact that their dressing room was more like a casualty ward in the first half of the season, they would surely have been play-off contenders.
