BRADFORD Park Avenue striker Chib Chilaka claimed a hat-trick and almost made a clean sweep of the leading prizes at their awards night in the Horsfall Stadium clubhouse.
The former Bantams striker had an excellent season, and his best in terms of goals, which was reflected as he picked up the top scorer’s accolade. Chilaka found the net 17 times over the campaign, while the only other player to hit double figures was Danny Frost with ten, while Richard Marshall weighed in with nine.
Chilaka also picked up the supporters’ player of the year award and the players’ player gong. The only award that Chilaka failed to win was the clubman of the year, which went to Martin Drury.
It was a season of change for Drury, who started the campaign at left back but suffered an injury which ended his playing days and finished the campaign as manager elect.
On Monday of last week, John Deacey stepped away and the board turned to Drury to take over for next season.
Deacey wanted to keep Drury on and appointed him as first-team fitness coach but when Mark Hulme quit as assistant manager, Drury became Deacey’s No 2 and is now looking at his first pre-season as a manager.
Supporters' club chairman and club shop manager Dave Stordy thanked all of the club’s volunteers at the awards night, and director Joe Mosley had words of praise for the previous board members following the takeover by Gareth Roberts in January.
Before the evening was brought to an end, the new shirt for next season was unveiled, and it pays homage to Kevin Hector on the 50th anniversary of him scoring 44 Football League goals in a season for Bradford Park Avenue.
