SET-PIECE experts Grangefield Old Boys have retained the Terry Marflitt Trophy.
They defeated Alwoodley 3-1 at Liversedge's Quaker Lane ground, although there was little action in the first half, with only one shot of note from each side.
Grangefield took the lead ten minutes into the second half when an unmarked Luke Hunter headed home a Nuno Pereira corner, and they doubled it ten minutes later when another corner from 17-year-old Pereira was headed home by Kev Brown from the edge of the six-yard box.
However, Alwoodley were galvanised by this second reverse, and prolific centre forward Graham Shaw crashed home an unstoppable drive.
But man of the match Pereira was then about to shoot in the area when he was brought down, Grant Jackson scoring from the spot and Alwoodley being reduced to ten men after what was a hotly-disputed decision.
In the Championship Division, two second-half goals from Ben Binns were not enough to save Calverley United from a 4-2 defeat at Farnley Sports.
Although resurgent United had won four successive matches once Brian Davies returned as manager in March, they needed to make it five to stay up and were therefore relegated.
Yorkshire Amateur League under-21 player Nathan Bailey scored five goals for improving St Bede's, who won 6-3 at Almondburians in Division One, Dave Morley getting the other goal.
Now the Bradford team only need a point at Grangefield Old Boys Reserves on Saturday to be safe, which could relegate either Sandal Wanderers or Leeds Medics & Dentists Thirds alongside Gildersome Spurs Old Boys.
The latter finished a forgettable season with a 7-1 defeat at Old Centralians, Jordan Brereton netting the Old Boys' only goal with a 30-yarder.
Grangefield Old Boys are secure in eighth place after their 5-3 home defeat against Leeds Medics & Dentists Thirds.
In Division Two, St Bede's Reserves gave themselves an outside chance of avoiding the drop after a 6-1 victory at Morley Town Reserves, Brad Holland (3), Anthony Garner (2) and Liam Darke getting St Bede's' goals.
However, there was no joy for St Bede's' third team, who lost 4-0 at home to Shire Academics Thirds in Division Six to make it eight matches without a win for the mid-table team.
