TONY McMahon kicked off the season as captain of a Championship club and will end it on loan in League One.
It’s been an eventful campaign for the 29-year-old but he is genuinely gutted to see tomorrow’s finish line.
“I wish there were 30 games left now I’m playing,” said City’s utility man, who has already filled in various roles during his short stint borrowed from Blackpool.
McMahon’s optimism is founded on starting the last three games and he sees tomorrow’s finale at Crewe as another potential job interview.
Out of contract in the summer, and clearly out of favour with the relegated Tangerines, he is hopeful that Phil Parkinson will push to keep him on.
McMahon added: “I’ve not stopped smiling since I’ve come in here. I’ve really enjoyed my time and if Bradford want me to stay then of course I’ll seriously consider it.
“I’m playing for my future; not just mine but my family’s because I’ve got two kids to think about and a wife.
“That does come into your thinking. But I’m just back enjoying football and being back in the team.
“It’s been a long season but I just love playing football and that’s what I’m here to do.
“Hopefully I’ll get another 90 minutes under my belt and then see where it takes me in the summer.
“I’ve been reading about the takeover but I’m not really getting involved in that. It’s out of my hands what will happen.
“I’ll just carry on playing football and then, come the end of the season, have a chat with the manager here.”
McMahon has had to wait for his chance with the Bantams, coming off the bench four times before making his full debut against former club Sheffield United.
But his busy performances and set-piece quality, coupled with the willingness to occupy different positions, have offered Parkinson food for thought with his squad-building plans.
McMahon said: “I’ve had to wait my turn but hopefully I’ve done enough to show the gaffer I’m worth my place in the team.
“I’ve swapped and changed a lot this season – centre midfield, right wing, left wing, all along the back. I’m just happy to get in the team and try to give my all.”
City are unbeaten since McMahon has been added to the starting line-up – a solid response to the 6-0 home spanking by champions Bristol City.
He added: “It wasn’t nice when we lost four out of five and obviously had the heavy defeat against Bristol. It was important we bounced back and hopefully we can finish off well.
“I see no reason why we can’t. You never want to go into the summer on the back of a bad result and have all that time to dwell on it.”
