AS THE season heads towards its conclusion, there are still many issues involving championship, promotion and relegation to be decided in the West Riding County Amateur League.

Steeton travelled to champions-elect Golcar United and came close to taking a point off the Premier Division leaders.

Lee Reilly equalised for the Keighley side midway through the second half after Jonathon Newiss had given the hosts a first-half advantage.

But try as they might, Steeton were unable to prevent John McAliskey from scoring to give Golcar a 2-1 victory and move them to within three points of the championship.

Fifth-placed defending champions Ovenden West Riding, who cannot catch Golcar, are making a strong bid to finish as runners-up.

Ovenden beat Littletown 8-1 on Saturday, with former Tyersal striker Andrew Bailey contributing a treble.

Huddersfield YMCA secured their spot in the top flight for next season with a 2-1 home victory over second-bottom Kirkburton, who remain in big danger of going down.

But Tyersal, who have had a season they will wish to put behind them after finishing bottom of the pile, ended their campaign by being trounced 10-1 at Lower Hopton.

Dudley Hill Rangers saw their chances of a top-two place in Division One virtually vanish with a 2-2 draw at home to relegation-threatened Campion Reserves.

Aaron Heywood and Danny Softley scored for Rangers, while Josh Ludford netted both Campion's goals.

Wakefield City moved into pole position ahead of Ventus-Yeadon Celtic, who were without a game, with a 1-0 success at Overthorpe.

Bradford Horton Sports and Wibsey reversed their fixture to Wibsey's Westwood Park ground after the match referee declared the Myra Shay pitch to be unsuitable.

But the move did not stop Sports from moving up to fourth with a 3-1 victory as Lee Smith, Anil Singh and Asif Chumara struck for the winners, while Danny O'Donnell got the consolation.

Gildersome Spurs Old Boys and Honley edged closer to securing the promotion places from Division Two.

Leaders Gildersome were given a shock at home to second-bottom Bradford FC when they found themselves 2-0 down in added time after Hasan Khan and Faisal Mohammed had scored.

But three goals in a hectic final four minutes from Stephen Ball, Joe Bedford and Lee Thrush gave the Old Boys a dramatic 3-2 success.

Honley enjoyed a 7-0 home victory over Hunslet Club & Parkside, while Salts Reserves extended their winning run to five with a 3-1 home victory in their penultimate game of the season at home to Littletown Reserves.
