ST BEDE'S, who have looked prime relegation candidates for most of their Yorkshire Amateur League Division One season, notched a vital victory at fellow strugglers Leeds Medics Thirds to move out of the bottom two.
Cracking goals from Nathan Bailey topped and tailed the Bradford club's triumph, and they still have two games in hand, but some of the gloss was taken off the victory with a suspected broken ankle for reliable defender Nathan Hurtault.
Meanwhile, Grangefield Old Boys Reserves warmed up for Wednesday night's Hancock Cup final with a 4-1 midweek home defeat of Gildersome Spurs Old Boys and a 1-1 weekend draw at Leeds Independent.
Goalkeeper Ross Monaghan converted a penalty against Gildersome, with the other goals coming from Tom Carlisle (equaliser), Doug Gaylor and Chris Pearson, after Lee Thrush had given the visitors the lead.
The draw at third-placed Leeds Independent moved improving Grangefield up to ninth.
Spurs' relegation fears were increased by their 2-1 defeat at Almondburians, Jordan Brereton netting for the losers in the 86th minute.
Grangefield Old Boys warmed up for their Marflitt Cup final against Alwoodley on Saturday, April 25 with a 4-1 Premier Division home victory over Wigton Moor Meths.
Luke Hunter scored in the first half for the old boys, who dominated the second half via goals from Andy Kenyon, Ritchie Banks and Kev Brown but the fourth-placed club also hit the woodwork three times.
Farsley Celtic Juniors have won the Division Three championship after a 5-0 win at Almondburians Reserves, Alex Gyte (2), Chad Morris, Louis Surtees and Josh Sanz Carvell being Juniors' marksmen.
Bainbridge, beaten 5-3 at ten-man Churwell Lions Thirds, have missed out on promotion but have still had a superb season in finishing fifth.
The visitors trailed 4-0 at half-time but hit back via Hassan Iqbal, Hussain Iqbal and Rizwan Mir.
* The Yorkshire Amateur League won 2-1 at home to the York Football League in the preliminary round of the FA National Inter-League Competition, and will not now be in action until October.
