BRIGHOUSE Town have the wind in their sails ahead of tomorrow’s Evo-Stik First Division North derby against hosts Farsley at Throstle Nest.

Paul Quinn’s men beat Kendal Town 3-1 at the Dual Seal Stadium while ten-man Farsley suffered a humbling 5-1 defeat at play-off chasing Northwich Victoria after having keeper Tom Taylor sent off early on.

Brighouse are in their first season in the Evo-Stik League but they guaranteed they will be back for a second term with their win over established Kendal. Ryan Hall gave Brighouse the lead just before the half-hour mark but Jack Kellaher equalised for the Lakeland outfit just minutes before half-time.

The home side were back in front just eight minutes into the second half after Leon Henry struck and, when Kendal’s Ricky Mercer committed a foul inside the area in the 75th minute, Issac Baldwin converted the resulting penalty.

Farsley had Adam Priestley back from international duty, the striker having played for Gibraltar against Scotland at Hampden Park last Sunday. Priestley was into the action early, forcing a good save out of the home keeper.

Taylor was also pressed into an early save but his next intervention was the foul that earned him a red card and Vics’ Josh Amis converted the 12th-minute penalty. Iain Howard doubled the home side’s lead just after the half-hour but Farsley continued to play well with ten men and Lewis Nightingale halved the deficit on the stroke of half-time with a rebound from his own saved penalty.

However, it was a brief recovery and second-half goals from Howard, Gary Burnett and Richard Bennett saw the Vics bank the three points and climb one place to third.
