BRADFORD Park Avenue still have seven games of their season left as they head to Hyde this afternoon after Saturday’s home game against second-placed AFC Fylde in the Vanarama North was postponed.
Hyde were not in action on Saturday either but it was confirmed that they will be handed the wooden spoon at the end of the season. The Cheshire outfit have just 15 points to play for but are 16 behind second from bottom Brackley Town.
Saturday’s postponement means that John Deacey's men will face three games in one week at least once before the end of the campaign.
Avenue have three home games, three away and one at a neutral venue when they face Garforth Town in the West Riding County Cup at Valley Parade.
The last day of their season is Saturday, April 25 and all of Avenue’s fixtures must be completed by that day.
All of the leagues on the football pyramid have to adhere to strict FA regulations, with the promotion and relegation issues having to be decided to allow the structures of the leagues to be finalised for the 2015/16 season.
As with recent weeks, Avenue’s forthcoming games are all against clubs with plenty to play for – even Hyde are playing for pride. Deacey’s men host play-off chasing local rivals Guiseley, Worcester City – who need points, although their chances of a play-off finish are remote – and Fylde, who could still win the title.
The away games are at Stalybridge Celtic, who are in the relegation places, but only by one point, and North Ferriby United, who won the FA Trophy at Wembley and still have an outside chance of making the play-offs.
Avenue are seeking their own double, safety in the Conference North and silverware with a cup win but they know rivals Harrogate Town were stunned in last season’s West Riding County Cup final by Eccleshill United so are taking nothing for granted.
Avenue’s remaining games: Hyde away today, Guiseley home Sat 11, Garforth Town at Valley Parade Wed 15, Worcester City home Sat 18, Stalybridge Celtic away Tue 21, North Ferriby United away Sat 25, AFC Fylde home tba.
