Farsley 0, Lancaster City 1
THE final nail was well and truly hammered into the coffin of Farsley's play-off aspirations as they slumped to a home defeat to long-term rivals and bogey side Lancaster City.
The mid-table Lancastrians completed an Evo-Stik League double on their Yorkshire hosts in an unusually tame Division One North roses derby.
Lancaster beat Farsley 3-0 at home on the opening day of the season and nabbed another three points at Throstle Nest thanks to an own goal from Ryan Serrant midway through the first half.
A bright start by the home side had seen them create an early chance for Andy Welsh but they failed to build on that.
Lancaster responded to Welsh's early chance with a good attack that ended with Farsley defender Spencer Harris deflecting a well-struck effort over the bar.
But minutes later the Villagers were behind in somewhat bizarre circumstances as Serrant lobbed his own keeper Tom Taylor.
It was a frustrating afternoon of 'if only' for the hosts. They could have levelled within six minutes, when Alex McQuade just failed to convert a Lewis Nightingale corner, while a later chance saw Aiden Savory go close from Kyle Hancock's through-ball.
The unfortunate Serrant was replaced by Josh Grant after the interval and Hancock made way for Matt Dempsey, who provided the best chance of the second half when he played in Welsh but his shot went agonisingly wide.
