HOLDERS Grangefield Old Boys are through to the Yorkshire Amateur League's Marflitt Trophy final – but only after winning a thrilling penalty shoot-out 5-4 against Ealandians.
The semi-final was played, for the first time, at Rothwell's Fleet Lane ground and Grangefield were 2-0 down inside ten minutes.
However, they then surged 3-2 ahead via Grant Jackson (two, including a penalty) and an own goal from Kev Brown's superb corner.
In what was a repeat of last season's final, which Grangefield won 2-0, Ealandians made it 3-3 in the 78th minute and there were no more goals in either normal or extra time.
Phil Gill saved one of Ealandians' penalties before the level-headed Matt Tomlinson put Grangefield through 5-4 in the shoot-out to earn a final against fellow Premier Division side Alwoodley at Liversedge FC.
While the first team progressed via the drama of penalties, Grangefield Old Boys' Reserves bowed out 4-2 via the same method to Hunslet Club Reserves in a Leeds & District FA Cup quarter-final, having led 3-0 after 80 minutes.
Darren Dodsworth, Josh Spence and Sam Russell netted but Grangefield should have doubled their lead in the opening half and paid the penalty when Hunslet's long-ball tactics brought them three goals in the last ten minutes.
Farsley Celtic Juniors were missing several first-team regulars but still reinforced their position as Premier Division leaders with a 4-0 victory at Trinity Old Boys, who thus finished their campaign with six straight defeats.
Andy Cooper's close-range cross-shot put Celtic ahead and John Mallinson's angled shot from the edge of the area made it 2-0. Tom Ormondroyd's classic header and Cooper's superb drive finished Trinity off.
Celtic manager Barry Thirsk praised his squad for a professional performance and said: "We had three players with bad injuries but they chose to play. Credit to them and the rest of team who put an extra shift in."
New manager Nick Sutcliffe continues to weave his magic for Stanningley Old Boys, who won 2-1 at basement boys FC Headingley to make it five successive wins in all competitions and four in the league as they climbed to sixth.
However, Headingley battled hard, forcing Stanningley to make three substitutions, and one of them – Jason Carr – broke the deadlock in the 80th minute.
Newcomer Brian Sharrock made it 2-0 four minutes later, only for Headingley top scorer Merlyn Andrews to reply.
Calverley United's feel-good factor at the return of former manager Brian Davis reached new heights with a 6-1 home victory over Old Batelians in the Championship Division.
Several players have returned to the fold after Davis' appointment and one of them, Joel Binns, scored four times, with Ben Binns and Jake Smith also on target.
United, who also had players back from long-term injury, are now off the basement but they are still seven points behind third-bottom Thornesians with only four matches left.
After six defeats on the bounce, Gildersome Spurs Old Boys showed much-improved form to beat visitors Leeds Independent 3-1 in Division One, with skipper Conor Firth (2) and James Wilby scoring for fourth-bottom Spurs in a superb first-half display.
However, cellar dwellers St Bede's fell 2-1 at home to Old Centralians with only Kinsley Hall netting for the hosts, who have games in hand on four of the five clubs above them but are lacking in confidence.
St Bede's Reserves, who are bottom of Division Two, lost 7-0 at Amaranth Crossgates, while Farsley Celtic Juniors Reserves had a vital 4-1 home win over Churwell Lions in a top-of-the-table Division Three clash.
Ben Wilson's goal on the half-hour mark gave the reserves an interval lead and Louis Surtees made it 2-0 after a weaving run and beautiful shot.
The Lions halved the arrears on the hour but they were finished off by Steve Wells' 74th-minute snap-shot and newcomer Joe Crampton, who scored in the 87th minute off the bench.
Farsley are a point ahead of second-placed Ealandians Reserves, who have played a game more, but Churwell are third with three points less than Farsley but having played a game more.
The outstanding contest was that between vastly experienced Churwell forward Tony Garth and young defender Alex Reid, who came out on top.
Fifth-placed Bainbridge made it ten straight wins with a 3-0 win at much-improved FC Headingley Reserves, thanks to spectacular goals by Billal Saleem, Raffiq Ali and Hassan Iqbal. The Bradford club host Farsley Celtic Juniors Reserves on Saturday.
