Lowestoft Town 0, Guiseley 0
GUISELEY endured a frustrating afternoon after their long trip to Suffolk as they were held to a draw by struggling Lowestoft Town.
The point gained from the goalless encounter sees the Lions hold on to third place in Vanarama Conference North and keeps their hunt for a play-off finish very much on track.
But for the Trawlerboys it was not enough for them to retain 14th position as they surrendered that to in-form Bradford Park Avenue.
Lowestoft had the game's first attempt on target but Lions keeper Steve Drench was equal to it. The visitors soon responded and Alex Johnson brought a save out of home stopper Ashley Jones.
Midfielder Danny Boshell picked up a yellow card for deliberate handball on his return to the side following suspension. Johnson then played Andy Holdsworth in but he shot wide, while Danny Lowe headed a Nicky Boshell free-kick wide before the break.
Both of the Boshells had chances in the second half, Nicky half-volleying well wide while Danny put Jones to work again.
Guiseley were relieved that Drench remained alert because he also made a fine save when the Trawlerboys mounted a breakaway.
The Lions came close to breaking the deadlock when there was a scramble in the home area, while a late Holdsworth free-kick was deflected for a corner on a difficult day on the coast.
Guiseley manager Mark Bower said: "I thought we played well, given the conditions. It was very windy and the pitch was one of the most bobbly I have seen in a long time.
"We adapted really well and created the better openings with that harsh wind in our faces in the first half.
"In the second half we were camped in their half. We had them penned in but couldn't find that bit of quality to get the goal. It was frustrating, as we dominated, but it was a good point.
"The players really appreciated the efforts of so many of our fans. It was great to see so many of them there but I just wish we could have rewarded them with a better performance, or result at least."
