THORNTON United's bid for a treble remains on track after they gave Bradford Horton Sports a lesson in finishing in a Bradford & District FA Sunday Senior Cup semi-final at Thackley FC.
First Division Horton Sports gave as good as they got for half an hour but fell behind to their Bradford Sunday Alliance League Premier Division rivals when Dave Wilson scored from a Deroy White flick-on.
Horton's goalkeeper pushed a Josh Milner corner kick into his own net five minutes into the second half and that signalled the opening of the floodgates as United won 6-1.
Dan Cunningham's solo made it 3-0, substitute Ike Walker bagged the next two and Danny Walker rounded off a well-worked team move for the sixth, Horton avoiding a blank sheet by netting when it was 5-0.
United also meet First Division opposition in White Eagles in the semi-finals of the Alliance's GOALS Senior Cup at Rawdon Meadows on Sunday, March 29 (11am). They recorded a narrow victory over them in the District Senior Cup quarter-final this season.
Thornton will face West Bowling or Bolton Woods in the Senior Cup semi-final, to be played at Thackley on Tuesday, March 31 (7.00).
United are also well placed in the Premier Division, where they are third but only three points behind leaders Stanningley Albion with three matches in hand.
