Thackley 2 Armthorpe Welfare 3
RESURGENT Thackley’s four-game winning run was ended at Dennyfield after a poor first-half performance left them with too much to do after the interval.
It was a case of after the Lord Mayor’s Show as the previous midweek they had gained the most impressive of their five recent victories.
But after beating Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division leaders Tadcaster Albion, the Dennyboys went down at home to struggling Armthorpe.
Welfare took the lead out of the blue in the 14th minute, Jay Rollins netting a good strike after Joe Lumsden had won the ball back on the edge of the area.
But the Dennyboys responded quickly, Ryan Farrell coolly tucking a shot under the visitors’ keeper after Joe Brown had battled to keep possession before playing him through.
However, Welfare were soon back in front when Lumsden smashed the ball in from point-blank range after Thackley keeper Ed Hall had parried on his line.
It was possibly Hall’s most regrettable 45 minutes of football and he dropped a 31st-minute corner over his line to gift Armthorpe a 3-1 lead that they took into the break.
The second half belonged to the Dennyboys but they had given themselves a mountain to climb and, after Tuesday’s heroics, it was a bridge too far.
They did cut the deficit with the goal of the game. Rhys Jenkinson delivered a free-kick that former Bantam Brown excellently laid off to substitute Redmond Lee, who chipped the keeper from the edge of the area.
