IT IS a big cup weekend for Bradford City's women's team as well as Phil Parkinson's knockout heroes as Steve Winterburn plots a giant-killing of his own.
Winterburn's side, who play in Premier League (North), take on Super League One outfit Doncaster Rovers Belles in an FA Women's Cup fourth-round tie at Thackley tomorrow (4pm).
A hard-earned 2-1 win at West Midlands side Sporting Albion, with goals from new signing Lucy Sowerby and Chantelle O'Hara, kept City third in their league but they will now have to play a waiting game while their rivals catch up on games in hand.
Apart from the Bradford girls' interest in the FA Women's Cup, they are still intent on retaining the West Riding equivalent and return to action in that competition on Wednesday night when they face Leeds Ladies in the second of the semi-final nights at the Woodlesford county headquarters.
This week Brighouse Town, from the North East Regional League Premier, faced Division One (South) promotion hopefuls Farsley and lost to a solitary goal by one-time Leeds United striker Clare Parker. Farsley now face a backlog of fixtures that could impact on their bid for the league title.
City's reserve side are also involved in a chase for league and cup honours. They take on bottom club Mansfield Town at Eccleshill United (2pm) as, with five games in hand, they bid to catch current leaders Newcastle.
As holders of the reserve cup, Bradford are looking forward to a second successive appearance in the final after securing a 2-1 last-four win at West Ham United.
Playing on a 3G pitch, it was City who suffered an early setback but they came back from 1-0 down to win it 2-1 with an Abi Lee double.
The City A team face what could be one of their toughest games of the season at third-placed Wetherby Athletic Reserves. They now trail leaders Battyeford Belles by three points, albeit with two games in hand.
Elsewhere, Guiseley Vixens kept up the pressure on leaders Liverpool Feds in Premier Division One North as goals from Caroline Hulme and former City due Becky Kendel and Kerrie Szerdicky secured a 3-1 win over Mossley Hill.
Guiseley take on bottom club Sheffield United Community tomorrow knowing victory will lift them into top spot with six games to play. But Leeds, at Chorley, find themselves badly off the pace in fourth place.
