BRADFORD Park Avenue stretched their unbeaten run to six games in midweek – but only just as the ten men of struggling Colwyn Bay threatened to stall the resurgence of John Deacey’s men.
The Avenue boss had his strongest squad available for the visit of the Welsh club but, despite Colwyn having right back Lanre Olpane sent off early on, Avenue missed the chance to take the lead from the resulting penalty and almost paid the price.
Avenue had their former Bantams defender Simon Ainge to thank for keeping their unbeaten run going. He headed them in front and netted a stunning late leveller in the 2-2 draw.
Coming after victories against promotion-chasing neighbours Guiseley and third-placed Hednesford Town, it was a humbling experience – but that will not be lost on Deacey.
He said before the game that people needed to keep their feet on the ground and that there is still work to do. Saturday's trip to high-flying Tamworth should make his players focus once again.
Wednesday night’s draw leaves them still four points above the relegation zone.
Avenue’s trump card is still their games in hand as they are the only club in the entire division to have played less than 30 at this stage.
Tamworth boss Andy Morrell was the Conference North manager of the month in December and has guided his side to fourth place in the table.
The Lambs drew with second-placed AFC Fylde last time out and are on course for a play-off finish despite only taking six points from their last five games.
