SNOW meant that only one weekend match survived in the Bradford Sunday Alliance League – the Division 1B fixture between Sporting Pudsey and Wrose Albion.
With sun melting the small covering of snow, the match referee gave the go-ahead at Western Flatts Park, and basement boys Albion continued their recent fine form to win 5-2 and move off the bottom.
The hosts were without captain and leading goal-scorer Adam Shaw and the visitors were soon 2-0 ahead.
But Pudsey soon replied via a Fazil Emara penalty after Alex McNichol was fouled and the latter player's movement was restricted for the rest of the match.
Sporting then made it 2-2 when Emara's shot from 18 yards was spilled, winger Tom Jones pouncing on the rebound.
The home team's injury woes were compounded when stand-in captain Omar Caines went off before half-time and Callum Emmott was substituted with a groin injury in the second half, Emara dropping into a makeshift defence.
Although Josh Pearce went close for Sporting in the second half and Albion hit a post, the match turned in the final ten minutes when the visitors scored three times.
Misunderstandings between Emara and Sporting keeper Chris Blackburn gave Albion the chance to make it 4-2 – and the fifth goal came from a breakaway that had a suspicion of offside.
Goals for Albion, who are now only a point behind their hosts in a tight battle to avoid the drop, came from Daniel Myers (2), James Fennell, Richard Harris and Derry Myers.
* Cuedos Rangers of Division One, Division 2A side Junction Wyke and Division 2B duo Lyceum and Eccleshill WMC are still on maximum marks for the end-of-season sporting awards, while a number of clubs are just below them. Leading the Premier Division marks are West Bowling and Peel Park.
Meanwhile, 24 clubs in the league have already achieved FA Charter Standard status but all the rest have now received the documentation as to how to fulfil the criteria.
