GRANGEFIELD Old Boys player Rhys Moore had an unhappy start to the new year.
Moore suffered a serious leg injury in the Yorkshire Amateur League clash at Ealandians, which caused the Premier Division match to be abandoned by referee Richard Asher after only nine seconds.
Seventh-placed Stanningley Old Boys came close to handing leaders Huddersfield Amateur a rare defeat as the visitors were 2-1 in front deep into the second half.
Richard Alexander equalised before the break and James Allen got the second goal after 68 minutes. But Sam Halstead rescued leaders Amateur, his goals in the 78th and 86th minutes sealing a 3-2 victory.
Two goals from Liam Darke were not enough to enable St Bede's to hold on to tenth place in Division One, Sandal Wanderers winning 3-2 to leapfrog their hosts.
Meanwhile, basement boys St Bede's Reserves led third-placed visitors Woodkirk Valley 2-0 in Division Two but lost 4-3 to a goal in the last minute.
Counter-attacking specialists Bainbridge continued their improvement in Division Three, following a 4-1 pre-Christmas triumph at promotion-chasing Farsley Celtic Juniors Reserves with a 5-1 victory at Norristhorpe to overtake the latter side on their way to seventh place.
Naveed Khan crossed to enable the in-form Razziq Khan to give Bainbridge a 1-0 lead inside five minutes but this galvanised Norristhorpe, who levelled and had two goalbound efforts saved by Harris Butt.
When Shoaib was upended in the box, Raffiq's penalty hit the bar but the rebound was netted by Zeeshan Khan – and before half- time, Raffiq released Shoaib to notch the third.
Despite dominating possession for much of the second half, Norristhorpe were again undone on the break, with Raffiq providing the ammunition for Naveed to slot home.
The fifth goal came from left back Hassan Iqbal, whose speculative cross ended up in the back of the net.
* Farsley Celtic Juniors have become only the second team from the Yorkshire Amateur League to reach the quarter-finals of the West Riding County FA Challenge Cup.
They won 2-1 at West Yorkshire Premier League outfit Robin Hood Athletic to earn a visit to former winners Leeds City .
Celtic dominated the first half, missing two golden opportunities, and they fell 1-0 behind in the second half.
But Athletic tired and visiting skipper Craig Farrand equalised before his subtly-flighted free-kick was headed back into the area for substitute Joe Firth to lash home the winner.
