THE Bradford Sunday Alliance League's interest in the FA SUNDAY CUP is over for another season – but it ended in the cruellest of ways.
West Bowling faced Warrington-based Black Bull at Evo-Stik Division One North Burscough Town and lost 1-0 to a hotly-disputed goal five minutes into the second half.
The Bradford club also had to play the last 70 minutes of a third-round tie of few chances with ten men after having a player dismissed.
Bowling's effort was terrific and they matched their opponents in midfield but could not make it count when they reached the penalty area.
The wet and windy weather mean that only one of the Bradford & District FA SUNDAY SENIOR CUP quarter-finals took place and, in a match that was full of incident, Division 1B side Grass Greener United lost 5-3 at home to Premier Division title-chasers Bolton Woods after pushing them all the way.
The referee wasn't only busy writing down goals but also the names of players who had been booked as six Woods players were cautioned and one dismissed – and that red card came after the final whistle.
United trailed 3-0 at half-time to strikes by Scott Mortimer, Tristan Innes and Andy Howland.
However, the underdogs took command in the second half and, with 20 minutes left, had made it 3-3 via Andy Patterson, James Small and Chris Sedgwick.
It looked as if the momentum was with United now but Bolton Woods had other ideas, with Howland and Innes netting with ten minutes and five minutes left respectively.
In the league, no Premier Division matches survived but Oakenshaw's 5-0 victory at Bradford Phoenix in DIVISION ONE strengthened the visitors' bid for a return to the top flight.
Olympic's hold on DIVISION 1B continued with their 4-3 win at Sporting Pudsey, which leaves them seven points clear of second-placed Toller having played a game more, while Great Northern and Aire Athletic kept in touch with Toller after a 3-1 triumph at rock-bottom Wrose Albion and a 5-2 success at home to Beldon Sports respectively.
In DIVISION 2A, Chris Godfrey and Andy Robinson netted for Turf but it was no use as Clayton Village Sports & Social Club stretched their lead at the top to nine points by hitting six, although Gallopers and Mill Lane 2004 look serious contenders for the crown.
Thornton United Reserves are the new leaders of DIVISION 2B after an above-Parr display in a 3-1 triumph at next-to-bottom Park.
Man of the match Ross Parr bagged a brace for the second string, Nicki Thornton also scoring.
In DIVISION 3A, Oddfellows Celtic Reserves are the new front-runners following their 3-0 victory over basement boys Rose & Crown, while Station Hotel consolidated second place with a 7-1 win over Titans.
In DIVISION 3B, Steel Bangle Spartans jumped two places into second position after beating league leaders Eccleshill Punjab B 8-1 and Salts Reserves are third following a 5-1 triumph at Clayton Village Sports & Social Club Reserves.
