A COURSE for new referees, run by the Bradford Sunday Alliance League, will be held next month in a bid to address a chronic shortage of qualified officials in the Bradford area.
Supported by the Bradford & District FA, it will be held at Manningham Mills Sports Association on the weekend of January 24-25.
The lack of referees is particularly noticeable in the Alliance, with Bradford & District FA secretary Carol Dent saying: "We only have 52 referees doing 11 v 11 adult matches in Bradford and we should have 100."
The course costs £115 per referee but with Sunday Alliance League paying £30 of that as long as the official continues to referee in the Alliance for a minimum of 12 months after the course, and the Bradford & District FA and West Riding County FA helping out too, candidates will only pay £25.
Anyone who is 18 and over and interested should contact Sunday Alliance League secretary Pat Goodall on 01943-831586 but a deposit will be required.
