BRIGHOUSE Town were one of just two of the area’s non-league clubs to see any action on Saturday but they slipped to a 2-1 defeat at Burscough.
The match was scheduled for a 2pm kick-off due to floodlight issues at Burscough’s Victoria Park.
The first half was end to end but the game remained goalless at the break.
Town broke the deadlock just before the hour mark when Leon Henry bundled in Ben Thronton’s square pass through a crowded area.
Just nine minutes later, Phil Quirk levelled and the same player hit the home side’s winner nine minutes from time.
Brighouse’s Evo-Stik Division One rivals FARSLEY were thwarted as their trip to Clitheroe was called off. It was a costly postponement for Neil Parsley’s men as they were replaced in the play-off zone by Scarborough Athletic.
Farsley dropped to sixth place and are now a point behind Scarborough but they have played two games more. Farsley now have games in hand on all of the clubs above them, and four over fourth-placed Droylsden.
Elsewhere, the only energy expended was nervous tension as players and supporters frantically checked websites and social media trying to find out if they should make journeys.
There were late calls at Clayborn and Throstle Nest as well as Horsfall Stadium.
LIVERSEDGE were due to host Armthorpe Welfare, while ALBION SPORTS should have welcomed Garforth Town. With THACKLEY’S trip to Nostell MW also off, it made it a clean sweep of Toolstation Northern Counties East Premier Division postponements for the local clubs.
ECCLESHILL UNITED’S new head coach Gerard Jones is still waiting to take charge of his first match after the Eagles’ home game against Penistone in Division One was also called off.
SILSDEN’S home game in the North West Counties Premier was postponed after a 10.30am pitch inspection.
