A review of the Bradford Sunday Alliance League’s lower echelons has to include mention of the close finishes – and nowhere was this more the case than in Division 2A.

This saw Aire Athletic edge the title by a point ahead of Oddfellows Celtic, who made a strong run at the end of the season.

Athletic proved just out of reach as Oddfellows got tied up in the final of the Intermediate Cup, in which they were beaten 2-0 by Salthorn – who made it a double by also winning the Sunday District Cup.

Cartwright Lister won Division 2B by three points from Grass Greener. Paul Jarvis’s men knew they had been promoted with three weeks of the campaign to play and a late run by Lister pushed his Greener side into the runners-up spot.

Eccleshill WMC won Division 3A by four points, with Clayton Village S&S finishing second.

The working men’s club men also reached the final of the Amateur Cup but were beaten 2-1 by 3B opponents Queen Hotel.

Eccleshill Punjab rounded off a terrific season by winning the Division 3B title by two points as they held off Park to claim their first trophy.

Another award that all clubs are encouraged to embrace is the sportsmanship marks given by referees in each match, including divisional prizes and an overall trophy winner.

Wyke Wanderers topped the Premier Division with an outstanding average of 9.1, although double champions Buttershaw White Star and District Cup winners West Bowling ran them close.

White Eagles headed Division One with a mark of 8.8, while Buttershaw Celtic – who won promotion – and Cuedos Rangers were only 0.1 behind.

In Division 1A it was Stocks Lane Rangers with a score of 8.8 and the Division 1B prize went to Wrose Albion on 9.0.

Bankfoot Lions were relegated from Division 2A but led the sporting marks with 8.8, with a 9.0 score earning Heaton Athletic top spot in 2B.

Dudley Hill Rangers Reserves finished in the bottom half of Division 3A but topped the sporting marks with 8.4.

And saving the best until last, Clayton Village Reserves may have finished bottom of Division 3B but they were the overall sporting champions with a mark of 9.2.
