The trusty boot of Simon Sewell guided Bradford Dudley Hill to a narrow 16-14 success against National Conference Division Two visitors Askam at Parry Lane.
The Cumbrians were first on the scoreboard with a touchdown from wingman Andy Young before full back Sewell joined the line to cross the whitewash for a try which he converted himself.
The visitors’ resolve was proving a hard nut to crack in a very competive first half but Sewell made no mistake with a penalty a minute before the break.
At 8-4 it was imperative that Hill struck the first blow on the restart, which they duly did when stand-off Ryan Dickinson glided over and Sewell made sure of a full reward.
Hill looked home and dry at 14-4 but the visitors quickly hit back with a converted try to narrow the gap.
Sewell slotted over another penalty before Askam full back Keiron Tyson crossed to ensure a nail-biting last seven minutes which saw Hill make the finishing post without any further mishaps.
