West Bowling 2, Buttershaw White Star 1
West Bowling finally broke Buttershaw White Star’s title monopoly this season as they beat them in the Bradford & District FA Sunday Senior Cup final.
The Bradford Sunday Alliance League rivals were meeting for the third time in ten days, with White Star winning on both the two previous occasions.
They first wrapped up the Premier Division championship and then completed the double with victory in the League Cup decider.
Bowling won both those trophies last season but gained revenge by defeating defending District Cup champions White Star in midweek.
Jack Murphy opened the scoring after just four minutes as Bowling made a lightning start in the final.
Both teams worked hard to try and establish the upper hand during the first half but Mark Bowers of Buttershaw was the busier of the two keepers and had to pull off a superb save from Chris Wood in the 40th minute.
White Star began to get on top after the interval and it came as no surprise when they equalised, although it needed a penalty to do so. Mark Betts converted from the spot after 65 minutes.
But with ten minutes to go, a defensive mistake allowed Bowling to regain the lead as Phil Brogan scored from close range.
And although White Star pressed hard for another leveller, Bowling held out to regain the trophy.
This was the first time all season that a team from Bradford had toppled Buttershaw in any competition.
