Albion Sports may be experiencing an inconsistent end to what was a promising season because of their paper thin squad but boss Kulwinder Sandhu is still taking the positives.
Lifted by the return from injury of two very important players, Sandhu also feels he may have unearthed another gem.
Striker Karl Hall returned from a long lay-off and midfielder Liam Ormsby, the son of former Leeds United and Aston Villa European Cup winner Brendan, is back from a shorter injury absence.
However, it is the son of another player well known in the area that is causing some excitement at Plumpton Park.
Making his full debut in last Saturday’s 4-1 win over Nostell MW was Jaskaran Basi and he marked the occasion by opening the scoring.
Sandhu explained: “Aran had come with us as a substitute the Wednesday before and he had to come on early because of Sam Redhead’s injury. He is a regular for our under-19s at centre back but he played wide right midfield against Nostell.
“He did well and deserved his goal. He is a big strong lad and he’s so quick across the ground, he’s a real prospect. He is Taj Singh’s son – now he was a player! If Aran is half the player his dad was we’ll be very lucky to have him.”
On the return from injury of Hall and Ormsby, Sandhu said: “We have missed Karl and Liam so much. Karl will get goals because he has class, he’s a full international. He has played for the Seychelles and has been a medal winner with them.
“Danny Facey has done well to get so many goals for us but imagine if we had been able to get him and Karl together all season how many we would have had? Karl looked good last Saturday in his comeback game – a little off the pace but that’s expected, and he will get stronger.
“Liam gets through so much work in the centre and a lot of our best play comes from him or through him.”
