There was virtually a full league programme of fixtures for the first time this month in the Bradford Sunday Alliance League, with only five scheduled fixtures falling to waterlogged grounds.

Bolton Woods did get their West Riding County FA Sunday Cup tie played at the fifth attempt on a 3G pitch at St John Fisher Catholic High School in Dewsbury but unfortunately went down 3-1 against Spen Valley team and former trophy winners Thornhill Lees.

The winners have Alliance League opposition in the quarter-finals when they play Buttershaw White Star at Thornhill Cricket Club next week.

Meanwhile, long-time Premier Division leaders Sandy Lane fell to the only goal of the game when Deroy White hit a late second-half winner for mid-table Thornton United.

United have now taken four points off the leaders in the league this season.

West Bowling took advantage of the leaders' demise by beating a young Wyke Wanderers team 4-0 on a difficult surface at Emsley's Recreation Ground.

Both teams tried to play football on a heavy pitch but it was the more experienced Bowling who moved to the top of the table with a double strike from Paul Hellawell and goals from Chris Wood and Carl Fawcett, after leading 2-0 at the interval.

Once again the Premier Division title is wide open, with West Bowling and Buttershaw White Star still having to play each other twice.

But Mill Lane remain firmly entrenched at the bottom after going down to mid-table George Hotel 4-2.

In Division One, Thornbury Celtic moved into second with a 4-2 victory over eighth-placed Allerton, and it now looks like a three-horse race for the top position, although both leaders Buttershaw Celtic and third-placed Napoleons Casino do have matches in hand on Thornbury.

Division 1A's top-of-the-table encounter between leaders Bolton Woods Social and second-placed Pudsey Amateurs resulted in the leaders winning 2-1 - Jamie Sugden scoring both their goals - and moving four points clear.

There are four teams in the race for the crown, but fourth-placed Undercliffe are a little off the pace and must be considered the outsiders, whereas third-placed Wyke Rangers have matches in hand on the top two and will go top if they win these.

In Division 1B, Red Lion moved into pole position by beating Alexander 3-1, while Swaine Green moved their home match against Wrose Albion to the 3G pitch at GOALS, and the switch paid off when the hosts won 5-2.

In Division 3A, Eccleshill WMC recorded their seventh straight league win with a hard-fought 4-1 victory over Great Horton.

The hosts took a shock lead but the visitors fought back, forcing several saves from the home keeper before levelling with a Matthew Hargreaves tap-in before the break.

After the interval, the clubmen created a number of chances. Sam Thom hit the bar from a corner before Andy Corker finished from the narrowest of angles with a superb goal off the rebound.

The visitors then ensured their domination with a Josh Jalali finish. Man of the match Chris Lee then netted a free-kick from the halfway line to put a gloss on the final scoreline.

In Division 3B, Eccleshill Punjab beat Junction in a good away performance, winning 5-1.

This was a good team performance, highlighted by the solid central midfield display from captain Aran Basi and Jordan Campbell.

The home team pressed hard but the visitors' stopper Kyle Whyman was in commanding form and produced some good saves.

Junction went in front but Sunil Singh Makh hit a hat-trick and skipper Basi netted a free-kick to put Eccleshill Punjab 4-1 up at the interval. Taj Basi added a fifth in the second half.
