The West Riding County Amateur League are thinking of extending their season beyond April 30 in a bid to beat the wet weather.
Results secretary Philip Rhodes confirmed that league officials have a meeting at Campion next Tuesday when they will discuss the ongoing issue.
“It is really a development meeting but we cannot leave it until our next proper meeting on March 11 to make a decision on applying for an extension to the season as it will be too late,” said Rhodes.
“We only managed to play one match last Saturday, Wibsey v Salts Reserves, and that was on an artificial pitch at Thornton Grammar School.
“It took Steeton five attempts to play their West Riding County FA Challenge Cup tie against Oxenhope Rec – and Steeton are already on their second attempt to play the quarter-final against Brighouse Town Reserves.
“Bay Athletic have only played ten league matches due to waterlogged pitches and their success in district cups.
“The same district cup theory also applies to Salts, Hunsworth, Storthes Hall and Wakefield City.
“Our Premier Division is Step Seven (on the Football Association ladder) and we would like an extension by the FA to May 11.”
Playing on artificial pitches would help but Rhodes explained that there are only five artificial pitches in West Yorkshire that are recognised by either FIFA or the FA.
He said: “They are at Woodhouse Grove School, Middleton Leisure Centre in South Leeds and Bruntcliffe School in Morley, which are FIFA recognised.
“Also, Leeds Met University and St Mary’s Catholic High School at Menston, which are FA recognised.”
