Aaron Mclean was today assured: Relax and the goals will flow for City.
The former Hull striker is still looking to get off the mark since his arrival at Valley Parade in last month’s transfer window.
Mclean, signed to replace Nahki Wells, has started five games so far – although one at Wolves lasted less than half an hour before he was subbed following Nathan Doyle’s red card.
Phil Parkinson was critical of the lack of a cutting edge in City’s midweek defeat at Carlisle and he sensed Mclean was trying too hard to score.
“Aaron’s just got to keep going, working hard and it will come,” he said.
“It’s important he doesn’t think about the goals too much and works hard at the other parts of his game. He had a hand in all three goals against Crewe last week.
“I just think that the other night maybe he got a bit frustrated and was shooting from distance at times.
“As a striker, the minute you start getting too concerned and over-analysing, that just makes it more difficult. The goals will come.”
Mclean was a former golden boot winner in League Two with Peterborough and netted 18 goals in his last season in this division in 2009.
Parkinson said: “Aaron needs to keep getting in the right positions, being cool and making sure all the elements of his game are in place.
“We know he’s a good player. He’s come in and fitted in well with the boys and he’ll do a good job for us without a doubt.”
A virus is expected to rule out Mclean for this afternoon’s clash with Coventry. Andy Gray is likely to deputise.
