Prospects are looking good for unbeaten Gildersome Spurs Old Boys

With Old Centralians Reserves being defeated by Churwell Lions in Division Four, defending champions Spurs became the sole team yet to lose when they beat visitors Grangefield Old Boys in the Senior A Division to hand them their third successive setback. 

Gildersome are now third but are level on points with second-placed Ealandians and have three games in hand, while leaders Huddersfield Amateur are only three points ahead but have played six games more.

Grangefield are fourth, also level on points with Spurs, but have played four more matches. 

An improved defensive display by basement club Old Batelians meant that they only lost 2-0 at new front-runners Huddersfield Amateur.

The hosts took the lead in the first minute thanks to leading scorer Chris Binks and secured the game with a 25th-minute strike from Joe Simmons.

This was Batelians' eighth away defeat in as many attempts and, as they are conceding marginally under five goals per game, their prospects of avoiding relegation after just one year in the top flight look slim.

Farsley Celtic Juniors' own pitch was unfit, so they played their Senior B Division match against Thornesians on the 3G pitch at Appleton Academy in Wyke, and were rewarded for their initiative with an 11-1 win.

Celtic were 4-0 up in the first 40 minutes, despite playing into a howling gale, before Thornes scored a cracker through their man of the match Joshua Leadbitter a minute before the interval as he slid home a cross from the right.

However, it was all Farsley Celtic in the second half. Their scorers were Craig Farrand (5), including a belter from just outside the area into the wind, Louis Surtees (3), Adam Jesusco, with a floaty cross that evaded the keeper, Ben Cook, with a header, and a debut goal from 16-year-old recent signing James Firth.

Celtic, who have had five wins and a draw in their last six league games, have overtaken Farnley Sports for fourth and, with a game in hand, are just three points behind leaders Stanningley Old Boys' Reserves.

Thornes are just outside the bottom two, being two points ahead of Collingham, but Thornes have played two games more.

St Bede's Old Boys' Reserves hosted Woodhouse Moor Methodists in a keen relegation tussle on a heavy pitch at the Samuel Lister Academy in Division Two, and drew 0-0.

The rain held off during the match but the wind increased in ferocity and Woodhouse concluded that “a draw was probably fair enough".

They added: "Chances were created and not taken, both keepers had good games, and both sides hit the woodwork twice, so honours even.”

Bede's are second from bottom with 11 points from 15 games, while Woodhouse Moor are two places above them, are two points ahead and have a game in hand.

Colton Institute Reserves' freefall continues in Division Three.

Their eighth successive defeat was a 3-1 home setback against Calverley United and they are second from bottom, having been in mid-table. Calverley, meanwhile, have climbed from 14th to 11th on the back of three straight wins.

Kieran Kenneally netted a goal either side of half-time for Calverley, the second from a spot-kick, and Oliver Harrison bagged the third, with Colton's goal coming late on from James Pace.

Colton are now three points behind Calverley, having played a game more.

Second-from-bottom Trinity Old Boys' Reserves found Farnley Sports Reserves' super sub Mark Ferguson in fine form in their Division Four match.

The visitors' ace bagged a hat-trick in a 5-2 victory, their other goals coming from leading scorer Shaun Gill and an own goal as they recovered from a 2-1 half-time deficit.

Gill has now scored 19 in 17 matches and Ferguson 17 from 15 for third-placed Farnley, who are 11 points behind second-placed Old Centralians Reserves, having played a game more.

Churwell Lions are four points ahead at the summit after their aforementioned victory at Old Centralians Reserves, but the latter have played a game less.

Goals for the Lions, in a tense battle, came in the 58th and 86th minutes, the second strike coming from leading scorer Ash Oates - his 19th of the campaign.

Michael Royce (2) and veteran Nigel Collins were on target for Batelians Thirds, who won their 'home' match 3-0 at East Ardsley Wanderers in Division Five.

East Ardsley have now gone seven games without a win and are second from bottom, while Batelians, who are unbeaten in five matches, four of which they have won, are still ninth, although this victory takes them on to 20 points, level with eighth-placed Middleton Park Thirds.

St Bede's Thirds had some nervous moments when cellar dwellers Old Modernians V reduced their arrears from 3-0 to 3-2 thanks to goals from Tony McKenna and Tommy Snowden.

But visitors Bede's added a fourth to calm their fears. Their scorers were Anthony Garner (2), Matt Long and Jack Greenwood as they extended their unbeaten run to six games in climbing to sixth.
