Guiseley boss Mark Bower is delighted to have centre back Danny Ellis back from injury but wished that his comeback game had been a little less eventful.
Ellis began last Saturday on the bench at AFC Telford United but was soon in the action after Danny Hall picked up a hamstring injury.
The defender came on and played well, had two goal attempts from set-pieces but then picked up two yellow cards and had an early bath.
Bower said: “It was great having Danny (Ellis) on the bench because he was a ready-made replacement once we lost Danny (Hall).
"We had started badly but we made a tactical change, and with Ellis on we got on top and got our noses in front before half-time.
“Danny had been responsible for some very good defending in that time so he was influential in us going from 1-0 down to 2-1 in front.”
Ellis had played a handful of games at the start of the season but missed several months with a back injury.
It was only the second time Bower had named him among the substitutes as he neared the end of the comeback trail.
Bower said: “Danny was unlucky to get sent off because he was in at the deep end really, coming into the game so early on.
"I thought the first booking was very harsh, the second one not quite so much. I have certainly seen yellow cards given for challenges like that in the modern game.
“He certainly felt hard done by and it’s a shame he will have to miss a game now that he is just getting back.
"He will miss Stalybridge away a week tomorrow. If he had played a couple more games, I don’t think he would have got the bookings.
“Danny put himself in situations he maybe wouldn’t have been in if he had been match fit. If he had had three or four games under his belt he would have been better prepared, perhaps a yard quicker, certainly a lot sharper.”
