West Bowling bowed out of the West Riding County FA Sunday Cup with a 1-0 quarter-final defeat at home to Leeds side HT Sports.

More wet weather caused over three-quarters of the scheduled Bradford Sunday Alliance League matches and associated cup ties to be postponed.

These included Bolton Woods’ trip to face Dewsbury side Thornhill Lees in the County Cup, with Buttershaw White Star awaiting the winners in the last eight.

But West Bowling were able to host their tie and, despite defending champions HT Sports having a defender sent off after just 20 minutes, it was the Leeds outfit who emerged victorious.

The first half was dominated by two strong defences and neither goalkeeper had a shot to save.

Bowling did bring the visiting keeper into action at the start of the second half as Joe Jagger’s shot was pushed round the post.

But the hosts were unable to make their one-man advantage count and they were eventually stunned by the awarding of a controversial penalty.

The referee originally waved away appeals for handball in the area but changed his mind on the advice of a linesman and Lee Connor netted from the spot.

Bowling surged forward in search of an equaliser but were denied by resolute defending from their opponents.

There was also disappointment in the West Riding County FA Sunday Trophy as Toller, the last surviving Alliance League team, lost 5-2 at home to Wellington Westgate in the quarter-finals.

Just one Premier Division match survived the rain and Buttershaw White Star took advantage to preserve their unbeaten record with a 5-3 win at mid-table Wyke Wanderers.

The fixture was switched to an all-weather surface as both clubs’ own pitches were waterlogged and White Star had to twice hit back from a goal behind to claim the points.

Clive Hunt and Andy Faulkner were the Wanderers first-half scorers but Mark Betts and Adam Barlow equalised.

Barlow’s fourth goal in two games then gave Buttershaw a 3-2 edge early in the second half and although Russ Cairns levelled matters again, further strikes by Graeme Sides and Jordan Missin sealed the win.

Division 2A leaders Oddfellows Celtic will be sick of the sight of Mill Lane Reserves after dropping a fourth point this season to the mid-table visitors. Two goals apiece by Josh Milner and Lee Van Moses earned a 5-1 win.

A Rob Coulter hat-trick, plus a long-range effort from Lewis Dean, saw Grass Greener United move top of Division 2B after a 4-2 home win over Thornton United Reserves.
