Defeat against ten-man Barrow brought an end to Guiseley’s 11-match unbeaten run in the Conference North.

The visitors began well but were soon a goal down as the Bluebirds took a 12th-minute lead somewhat against the run of play.

Nick Rushton, who had come on as an early substitute for on-loan Bradford Park Avenue forward Tom Corner, was put through and he rounded Lions keeper Steve Drench to score.

Barrow were reduced in numbers shortly afterwards as Paddy Lacey was shown a straight red card, presumably for something said out of turn.

The sending off, coupled with the home side’s early goal, set the tone of the game and the Bluebirds sat back.

Former Barrow striker Adam Boyes was making his Guiseley debut and it was a good effort from him.

He linked up well with the other forwards and was denied a goal on his first start. He had the ball in the net but it was disallowed.

The Lions continued to press and manager Mark Bower made some positive substitutions but they failed to craft an equaliser, despite five minutes of stoppage time being played.

Bower said: “We are bitterly disappointed to lose having played against ten men for a long time.

“We didn’t get the rub of the green, especially in the first half. We hit the bar and had a goal disallowed, so it is a tough defeat to take.”

Brighouse Town’s trip to face lowly Lincoln Moorlands Railway in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Thackley’s home derby against Albion Sports had been called off the previous day due to a floodlight problem at Dennyfield.
