New St Bede’s manager Danny Heaney saw his side finally end their search for a Yorkshire Amateur League win as they came from behind to edge out visitors Beeston Old Boys 4-3.
Saints had picked up just two points from their opening ten Senior B division games and it looked bleak again as Beeston raced into a two-goal lead inside five minutes thanks to goals by Carlton Binks and Tom Bronski.
Ryan O’Donnell reduced the arrears in the 25th minute with a header, only for Binks to respond with a penalty.
Ty Akram stabbed the ball home in the 41st minute to cut the arrears again and St Bede’s then dominated possession in the second half.
They did not draw level until 20 minutes from time when Gary Sunderland headed home after more good work by man of the match Akram.
The game looked to be heading for a draw until Ian Horrocks netted the winner from a late corner which lifted his side off the foot of the table.
Collingham Juniors now occupy the basement spot after losing by the same 4-3 scoreline to Calverley United, who climbed above Beeston into eighth place.
Two goals by Kieran Kenneally gave Calverley a 2-0 lead but this was rubbed out by Matt Gouland and Richard Metcalfe before half-time.
Scott Driscoll edged Calverley ahead again at the start of the second period and Kenneally completed his hat-trick with a penalty to restore the two-goal advantage.
Metcalfe reduced the arrears with his second goal and although Collingham then had a player sent off, it did not stop them hitting the bar and post late on as they searched for an equaliser.
Old Modernians Reserves suffered a surprise 3-2 loss at home to lowly Gildersome Spurs OB Thirds in Division Two. Old Mods remain fourth despite three defeats on the trot.
Winless Old Mods Fifths also suffered another blow as they lost 5-1 at Batelians Thirds in Division Five.
