Farsley will be bidding to go joint-top of the Division One North table tomorrow night when they make the short journey to face struggling Evo-Stik League rivals Wakefield.
Neil Parsley’s men are third in the table and their hosts are third bottom. A win for Farsley would lift them level with current top dogs Curzon Ashton – and victory by six clear goals would see them take over as outright overnight leaders.
Parsley said: “We are having to play Friday night because the Wakefield Wildcats have a pre-season friendly at home on Saturday, so we didn’t have much say on it.
“The only other option was to play on Sunday. Taking into account the recent weather and the fact that the surface at Belle View will be very soft, we felt we would be better playing before the rugby league game.
“There was not much choice, to be fair. It made more sense for us to play first and it really doesn’t make any difference to us playing on a Friday evening.”
Farsley have played more games than most of their promotion rivals, so they need points on the board – but Parsley is aware that their rivals do as well.
Wakefield may have lost 19 of their 29 fixtures this season but they are still one point above the trapdoor, although they have played more games than the two clubs below them.
Parsley said: “It won’t be easy, by any means, but we kept our unbeaten run going by grinding out a result when we drew 1-1 at home last week against Ossett in another derby fixture.
“We had no new injuries from that game and we have had a decent week off for players to get over bumps and bruises and for us to work on things in training, so we are ready for it.”
