Farsley 1 Ossett Town 1
Farsley were held to a home draw in a tough Evo-Stik Division One North derby but the point helped them retain third place in the table.
While Neil Parsley’s men were taking on their resurgent neighbours, many of their promotion rivals were frustrated by postponements.
Farsley were almost frustrated by ten-man Ossett.
The visitors lost their skipper Richard Patterson to a red card midway through the first half when he raised his hands to Farsley midfielder Ross Daly.
Home captain Rob O’Brien also found himself in the referee’s notebook but his earlier challenge did not look worthy of a yellow card.
Ossett had one near miss following a corner while O’Brien was on the end of most of Farsley’s best openings.
The skipper fired over after a good move and later shot straight at visiting keeper Sam Dobbs when well placed.
The second half also threat-ened to remain goalless as the game never really burst into life but Ossett did finally break the deadlock. It was against the run of play but James Eyles ended a long run with a neat finish.
Farsley earned a share of the spoils five minutes from time. Aiden Savory collected Matty James’ through-ball and his shot on the turn arrowed into the top corner, giving Dobbs no chance.
James and Matt Dempsey both had later chances to nick a win for Farsley but Parsley felt the draw was a fair result.
The boss said: “It was a tough point because after they (Ossett) had a man sent off on about 25 minutes they sat back.
“We found it difficult to break them down but they defended well.
“We had a late chance to get a winner but it would have been a steal and we didn’t deserve that but it keeps our unbeaten run going.
“It is another point towards our quest for promotion and the tally will only matter in May. We didn’t play well and only got a point at home but it could be a big point at the end of the season.
“The way Ossett battled they deserved a point because they made sure we didn’t get many chances.”
