Bradford City finished the year with a record to be proud of as a club but with a tinge of disappointment for first-team coach Steve Winterburn after a 3-0 defeat at arch-rivals Leeds United.

The City coach has yet to see his side overcome Leeds, and this game never looked like overturning this record, but overall they have managed to hold their own in this first season back in the FA Women's Premier League Northern Division, and still have three cup competitions to compete for.

It will next week before the teams return to action - the first team against Blackburn at Thackley - and there is particular reason for the reserves and A team to be hopeful of continued success.

In their last game, City reserves trounced Sheffield United 5-1 to stay four points clear at the top of the FA Premier League Reserve Division with a much superior goal difference.

A hat-trick from Mel Garside-Wight and one each from Ellie Swinhoe and Taylor Rushworth completed the scoring.

The form of Garside-Wight is one of the reasons for the reserves' scoring success for the one-time England international, already both the first team and junior team's all-time record scorer, has bagged 12 goals in nine games this season and provides experienced help for some of the youngsters around her.

There is a two-week break for the reserves and the young A team, who also top the table in the West Riding Women's League Third Division.

The West Riding League have a midwinter break, leaving Bradford Park Avenue to regroup and prepare for the second half of the season and a hoped-for climb away from the relegation zone in the Premier Division.
