The bad weather took a grip for the first time this season in the Bradford Sunday Alliance League at the weekend, with a total of 15 matches being washed out.

In the Premier Division, only two matches survived the waterlogged grounds, and one of the earliest casualties was Wyke Wanderers against leaders Sandy Lane.

Another top match that was not played was Stanningley Albion v Buttershaw White Star.

One game that did take place was at Emsley's Recreation Ground, where West Bowling took advantage of their main rivals' lack of action by posting a victory over newly-promoted Peel Park to move up to second place.

The visitors looked very good going forward and had a dangerous front line, and with the two Alan Morleys (senior and junior) buzzing about, the Bowling defence were stretched in the early stages.

Only some fine goalkeeping by Bowling's Ashley Onitari kept the rampant Peel Park attack at bay.

The league champions took an early two-goal lead but a fine header by Alan Morley senior halved the deficit after 25 minutes, and the home team hit another goal before the interval to go into the break leading 3-1.

In the second half, an early blitz of goals put the champions out of sight, with Joe Jagger hitting four and Curtis Mahon grabbing a brace, further strikes from Carl Fawcett, Paul Hellawell and super sub Jamie Hall taking the champions into a 9-1 lead ino the closing stages.

Former Bowling player Mark Shute then scored from the penalty spot in the last minute but the scoreline did not do justice to a terrific display from the visitors.

The only other Premier Division match was the relegation battle between the bottom two, George Hotel winning an eight-goal thriller 5-3 at Mill Lane to go level on points with their opponents and leave the bottom seven teams with only four points separating them all the way up to sixth.

In Division One, both Napoleons Casino and Thornbury Celtic had convincing victories and narrowed the gap on leaders Buttershaw Celtic, with both the second and third-placed clubs having games in hand on the leaders.

In Division 1A, all the top three had victories, meaning there was no change at the summit.

But the Undercliffe v Wyke Rangers match was a seven-goal thriller, with the visitors getting the winner in the last minute after both teams had been in the lead.

The home team made a great start and went into a two-goal lead with strikes from outside the penalty area by Lee Howard.

In the second half, the visitors took command and scored three times through Dan Penny, Jay Niland and Brett Missin, only for Howard to complete his hat trick for the home team with another stunning free-kick.

However, Penny hit his second to give the visitors the closest of victories to remain in third position.

In a top-of-the-table Division 1B game, Alexander beat Prospect 3-2, with Gary Worby, Craig Ricketts and Kyle Brearley netting for the home team.

In Division 2A, despite strikes from Liam Snazel and Jordan Rhodes and a Craig Gartland penalty for Turf, they were overwhelmed by a very good Sycamores Sunday from Keighley, who hit double figures.

Woodman Rovers moved up to mid-table in Division 3B, going in at half time with a 6-1 lead against rock-bottom Clayton Village Reserves, who have only had one victory all season.

With a good display from captain Liam Exley and the superb Joshua Armitage in midfield, the home team finished 9-3 winners, with Exley and Kieran Barnes hitting hat-tricks and Ashley Bland and Armitage also getting on the scoresheet, the tally being made up by an own goal.
