Garry Thompson loved to relive City’s play-off Wembley glory through the eyes of the supporters.

Thompson and his wife Chelsy were among the guests at the first showing of the “We Made History – The Fans” mini movie, which is being shown again at the National Media Museum tomorrow.

It brought home to the right winger the emotional struggle that was going on off the pitch during the promotion-clinching victory.

And it has also left him greedy to experience that elation once more.

He said: “It was a reminder, if you needed it. Everyone talks about the Bradford family and it was great to see what the fans have gone through.

“It really did hit home what lengths people go to just to get to the game and what they experience.

“But that’s just one afternoon. They go through that week in, week out supporting the lads.

“It was only 15 minutes but I imagine they could have done hours and hours of footage.

“As a player, it makes it more worthwhile because you know what people are feeling when they watch you.

“And watching something like that, just makes you determined to do it again.”

City have slipped to four points behind the top six after a glut of draws but Thompson believes another crack at the play-offs is well within their grasp.

“There’s absolutely no reason why we can’t do something like that. We haven’t been overawed or outplayed at all this season.

“We’ve had a bit of sticky patch but that’s what teams go through. We’re still there or thereabouts and a few points off the play-offs.

“It’s a tough run over Christmas but you want to play in those sort of games. I don’t know why but we seem to play better against the better teams.”

Goals have been a frustratingly rare commodity so far this season for a player who provided nine last term.

The anniversary of scoring against Arsenal in the Capital One Cup recently passed. But that wasn’t the only key strike in a haul that also included winners against Watford and Wycombe and a thunderous play-off effort against Burton at Valley Parade that dragged City back in the semi-final.

But 22 appearances into the current campaign, Thompson’s only mention on the scoresheet came from the icing on the cake fourth against Brentford in September.

He did unsuccessfully try to claim City’s winner at Gillingham a fortnight later but that was awarded to Gary Jones.

It’s been a barren run for the right winger but then he had scored only one goal going into December last year before that cup volley got the ball rolling.

Thompson added: “I definitely need to be scoring again. I’ve been getting in the positions but just haven’t been hitting the back of the net.

“Everybody wants to score more and I’m no different. I’m getting in the positions and it’s about time I started sticking the ball away.

“It is disappointing because I came off the back of last season when I contributed seven goals after Christmas.

“But it seems to happen in my career that once I get one I usually go on a bit of a run. Hopefully the next goal’s not too far away.

“But if I’m not contributing with the goals, I like to think that I’ve been in and around it by getting the assists to help the team.”
