Buttershaw White Star bowed out of the FA Sunday Cup 2-0 as they could find no way past a solid Chapeltown Fforde Grene defence.

Fforde Grene, of the Leeds Combination League Jubilee Premier Division, borrowed the ground of Northern Counties East League outfit Yorkshire Amateurs to stage the national third-round tie but found the change of venue no hardship.

Bradford Sunday Alliance League counterparts White Star were indebted to goalkeeper Mark Bowers for ensuring a scoreless first half as he made two excellent saves.

But Fforde Grene, who top the table in their league competition, took a deserved lead through Dempsey Smith after 65 minutes and Craig Maynard then put the tie beyond doubt with ten minutes to go.

Buttershaw did create a couple of half-chances but were unable to break through a commanding back four.

Meanwhile, there were a couple of shocks in the Bradford & District Sunday Senior Cup quarter-finals, including Wyke Rangers of Division 1A knocking out Premier visitors George Hotel 4-3.

Wyke led 3-1 at the interval after dominating the first half. Skipper Liam Hainsworth was in outstanding form as he bulldozed his way to a brace, while strike partner Brendan Folan was also on target after some good approach play.

Premier strugglers George Hotel forced their way back into contention at the start of the second half as they pulled a goal back.

But promotion hopefuls Wyke stood firm with a solid defensive display and then scored a fourth goal on the break through Nathan Johnston.

The visitors took advantage of Wyke having a player sent off to reduce the arrears again but could not find an equaliser as Ryan Wilson held the home defence together in the closing stages.

Another upset saw Swaine Green of Division 1B knock out Division One opponents Cuedos Rangers 2-1.

Sam Bradley showed great composure to open the scoring after 15 minutes when set up by strike partner Andy Lee.

Swaine Green then doubled their advantage after half an hour when Lee converted a penalty following a foul by the Cuedos keeper on Gary Sunderland.

Cuedos responded in the second half with some attractive football but were restricted to shooting from outside the area.

They were rewarded for their relentless pressure with a goal ten minutes from time but Swaine Green hung on to secure a semi-final berth.

Also through are league high-fliers West Bowling as they brushed aside Relay 7-1 in an all-Premier Division tie.

Bowling were four goals up at the interval through a brace by Chris Wood, backed up by Joe Jagger and Curtis McMarne.

Hamzia Khan pulled one back at the start of the second half but further strikes from Paul Hellawell, Stuart Macallum and Jack Murphy settled the outcome.

The one outstanding quarter-final tie between Allerton and Buttershaw White Star will be played on Thursday evening.

Queen Hotel maintained their impressive knock-out form with a 3-1 win over Bradford Vale to reach the Bradford & District Sunday Cup semi-finals.

Division 3A side Vale managed to take the lead after 20 minutes but James Cullen equalised for the 3B hosts before the interval.

It was end-to-end in the second half before two late strikes by Ryan Hardwick and Sam Prest steered Queen Hotel into their second semi-final of the season, following their earlier League Cup progress.

Bradford Sunday Alliance League action saw Sandy Lane take advantage of Buttershaw White Star’s cup distraction to move five points clear at the Premier Division summit with a 6-1 victory over second-bottom Dudley Hill Rangers. Adam Medley bagged four of the goals.

Thornton United and Peel Park shared eight goals in a thrilling drawn encounter.

Park took a two-goal lead through Adam Turner and Terry Hargreaves but Thornton powered back in the second half to surge 3-2 up.

Park restored parity with 15 minutes left through Liam Cooper and, as they pressed for a winner, were rewarded with a Mark Shute header. But Thornton snatched a point in the dying seconds after a deflected shot flew into the net.

A mid-table Division One battle saw stand-in keeper Jonathan Hicks emerge the hero for Victoria Rangers as they edged out Oakenshaw 3-2.

Oakenshaw took the lead but replies from David Geddis and Damian Rushworth left visiting Rangers in front at the interval.

Hicks then made it 3-1 by stepping out of goal to take a penalty, before saving a spot-kick at the other end in the last minute after Oakenshaw had pulled one goal back before going in search of an equaliser.

In the same section, Lane Ends returned to winning ways as Kevin Boyce and Danny Backhouse scored in a 2-1 victory over White Eagles in a relegation battle.
