Silsden made it three league wins on the trot with victory at home to St Helens.

The Saints caused the home side problems but Josh McNulty’s 14th-minute strike was the difference.

A through ball intended for debutant Owen Deakin-Pickard was laid back to his keeper by Ted Richardson, who didn’t realise McNulty was in such close proximity and the Silsden man nipped in to score.

It should have been a win by a more comfortable margin but the Cobbydalers spurned a chance to stretch their lead from the penalty spot. New man Deakin-Pickard was brought down in the area ten minutes before half-time but James Gill’s effort lacked power and direction and Town’s keeper Ciaran Gibson made the save.

Cobbydalers spokesman Jim Rosser said: “We had to be in front at half-time because the conditions were horrendous in the second half. The wind was strong and the rain was relentless, it was wild.

“There were some nervy moments. Gilly really should have made it 2-0 but it was a poor penalty kick. But its three wins on the run and the confidence is high.”
